The Witching Hour
The Witching Hour is an AI-generated video mix by Ian Sklarsky, an artist in New York. The project blends original songs, retro aesthetics, and a kind of haunted camp energy that’s hard to categorize but easy to get pulled into.
The music comes from Ian’s Crypt Wop series, which reimagines 1960s monster party tracks using AI tools like Udio. Some of the songs were written as if they were part of the Monster Mash universe, including one track where a DJ monster tries to get the record to play, and another that’s a full duet between the Bride of Frankenstein and Frankenstein. There’s also a strong nostalgia thread throughout. Ian’s visuals frame everything inside an old family room TV set, like you’re watching a local Halloween special taped over someone’s wedding video. He’s been experimenting with this style for a while. Some of the lyrics were created through voice-to-text singing prompts, and the visuals were composited from AI-generated suburban scenes using apps like Recreate. The video has the texture of a forgotten VHS, and the songs are full of little surprises. It’s funny and chaotic in the right way, but also specific and thoughtfully made. Ian filters everything and only keeps what actually works. Watch the full mix here and follow the project on Ambistream to see how we’re experimenting with showcasing artists like Ian on new formats.
