Media Remixing & Attribution

Put your media to work in new ways.

Track permissions, attribution, and usage as your content is licensed, remixed, and shared across platforms.

A single piece of media can now become hundreds of versions, with clips, translations, AI-generated adaptations and personalized experiences reaching audiences across different platforms.

For media owners, this creates new opportunities to earn revenue from existing catalogs. It also makes licensing more complicated. Different contributors may own different parts of a work, and the permissions that apply to one version may change when it gets edited, combined with other material, or distributed somewhere new.

Ambistream’s independent measurement tools help organizations follow those transformations and licensing conditions to help show how their work is being used.

Connecting licensing information with evidence of media activity.

Ambistream's Intervalo Data Mix associates media assets with information about their sources, contributors, and licensing conditions. Participating platforms can update those records when content is transformed or used.

The technology is being designed around four capabilities:

Media Lineage

Connect original assets with clips, translations, compilations, and AI-assisted adaptations. Maintain references to relevant contributors and individual media components where information is available.

Permissions and Licensing

Associate media with conditions governing approved uses, distribution territories, attribution requirements, and circumstances that may require additional authorization.

Independent Measurement

Reconcile information supplied by participating systems with available supporting evidence. Distinguish observed activity from reported or inferred information and identify gaps that require investigation.

Data Mix Receipts

Generate reports documenting relevant activity, permission checks, contributor attribution, and potential accounting obligations. Call out inefficiencies.

Making More Media Available for Reuse

New technology is creating opportunities that existing licensing processes struggle to support.

Consider a production company with thousands of hours of valuable footage. Traditionally, that material might be licensed for a limited number of clearly defined uses.

Today, a creative platform might want to make parts of that catalog available for AI-assisted editing, automated localization, or new interactive experiences. These applications could create additional licensing revenue while introducing the material to entirely new audiences.

The challenge is that each new use may involve different permissions, contributors, commercial terms, and distribution arrangements.

Many rights holders have good reasons to be cautious about making their catalogs available to outside systems. Without reliable information about what happens to the material afterward, it can be difficult to evaluate compliance, administer agreements, or calculate compensation.

Better measurement could make more of these arrangements commercially practical.

Example: Licensing a Performance for International Audiences

Imagine a Broadway producer making promotional footage available to an international distribution partner.

The footage contains music, performers, and creative contributions covered by different agreements. The partner wants to use an AI editing platform to produce a German-language version for a new audience.

The producer needs to establish which uses are permitted, whether additional approvals are required, and how the new version affects existing agreements.

If the adaptation is distributed through another service, the producer may also need reliable evidence of its use to support reporting and compensation.

This is the kind of workflow Ambistream is being developed to support.

By connecting the original footage with records of authorized adaptations and available usage evidence, the producer and its partners could spend less time reconstructing what happened and more time developing new licensing opportunities.
