Event Description:

Step into the spirit of Greenwich Village's legendary bohemian salons, where artists, intellectuals, and revolutionaries once gathered to reshape culture over tea and impassioned conversation. But this time, it’s to chat about the exponential future of AI.

In the 1910s-30s, Romany Marie ran a series of cafés that became the heart of Village bohemianism. Her tables hosted everyone from Buckminster Fuller and Edna St. Vincent Millay to John Sloan and Eugene O'Neill: a mix of painters, poets, architects, and people who thought of new alternative ways of thinking. Romany Marie believed that ideas mattered more than credentials, and the collision of perspectives generated cultural innovations.

On Monday October 6th, we're reviving that tradition. As artificial intelligence reshapes every dimension of human experience, we need spaces and events where technologists meet artists, where founders debate with philosophers, and where investors listen to academics. Just humans grappling together with the hardest questions of our time:

  • How do we build AI that reflects our values when we can barely agree what those values are?

  • What does creativity mean when machines can generate art?

  • Who profits from intelligence (artificial or human), and who bears the cost?

  • How do we preserve human agency in systems designed to predict and influence us?

This event is designed to be a free-flowing conversation salon in the Romany Marie tradition:

  • No formal presentations, just discussions and dialogue

  • Mix freely between artists challenging AI's creative claims, founders building ethical frameworks, investors betting on the future, and academics studying the implications

  • Light refreshments provided; BYOB encouraged (Marie always welcomed contributions)

Limited capacity to preserve the intimate, generative atmosphere that made Marie's salons legendary.

You should come if you're:

  • Building AI systems and questioning your choices

  • Creating art and wondering about your medium's future

  • Funding technology and thinking beyond short term returns

  • Studying these shifts and craving real-world context

  • Simply curious and thoughtfully concerned

  • Come ready to listen as much as speak.

Hosted By

This salon is hosted by Ambistream, a social TV platform designing AI-native media formats for a more ethical digital future. We're building infrastructure for how content gets created, remixed, and monetized, with licensing systems that actually pay creators fairly, privacy frameworks that respect users, and compliance tools built for a fragmented regulatory landscape. We think the future of media needs to be built differently from the ground up, which is why we're gathering people who are asking hard questions about AI's role in culture, creativity, and commerce.
