Thursday October 8th: Bohemian AI Salon - Digital Edition for AI Week NY
We’re back for another #AIWeekNY event, and this time we’re going 100% virtual.
Join us on Thursday, October 8 from 5:30–7:00 PM for an open Zoom conversation about our hopes, concerns, predictions, and unresolved questions around AI. We’ll start off with some general thoughts to get us all thinking, but the goal is for you to jump in and share your thoughts.
The event is inspired by the old Greenwich Village coffeehouse tradition, where artists, academics, and curious people share their different viewpoints. Our events are intentionally less corporate and are a little more philosophical than the usual AI gathering.
We want to get past the surface-level “AI is amazing” / “AI is evil” reaction and talk about the deeper questions underneath it. What happens to creativity, work, identity, agency, culture, and power when intelligent systems become part of everyday life? How can more people benefit from this? What should we protect? What are we excited about and what are we getting wrong?
We’ll also record another round of AI Hot Takes. If you have a strong opinion, prediction, concern, or idea, we’ll help you turn it into a short soundbite that we can share after the event (click here to see previous edition of AI hot takes).
Some of the questions we may get into:
AI leaders are now publicly talking about slowing development. Is that responsible or just self-serving?
Are AI agents really replacing work yet, or are we mostly creating a new class of people whose job is “botsitting”?
How can AI’s copyright and IP violations be solved so that creators are paid fairly?
If AI generated video, audio, or images have to be labeled, should that label follow the content everywhere it gets reposted and remixed?
Is “AI safety” just a PR layer on top of a race nobody wants to lose?
What kind of transparency should be shown around AI’s decisioning process, and how should AI systems or humans be liable for what it generates?
Should AI agents be taxed so that companies have an incentive to not fire their white collar workers or avoid paying the creative class?
What is one thing the AI industry is pretending has been solved that clearly hasn’t?
Come ready to talk, listen, disagree, change your mind, or simply think out loud.
